Day 2: Krakatau Island, Sebesi Island Breakfast at hotel; sail to Krakatau Volcanic Island, Krakatau Island is ia volcanic island situated in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra. The name is also used for the surrounding island group comprising the remnants of a much larger island of three volcanic peaks which was obliterated in a cataclysmic 1883 eruption, unleashing huge tsunamis killing more than 36,000 people and destroying over 2/3 of the island. The explosion is considered to be the loudest sound ever heard in modern history, with reports of it being heard up to 4,800 km from its point of origin; sail to Sebesi Volcanic Island, Sebesi Island was devastated during the 1883 volcanic eruption of Krakatoa. Official records give approximately 3,000 people killed, with 1,000 of these being non-residents. By the 1920s, settlers had returned, and today Sebesi is virtually completely cultivated, with only a small area at the peak and some mangrove swamps still natural; sail back to mainland and back to hotel
